Mekong Homes was initiated with strong environmental conscience. We are committed to having a low environmental impact, and configuring new ways of building that means new, eco-friendly alternatives are available to rural communities. The use of steel as the main construction material replaces traditional timber. Timber homes are susceptible to rot, damage and insect infestations, especially during the 6 month rainy season. The longevity of steel lasts generations, and can be reused and recycled. Homes are not at risk of rust because of the specialized paint that prevents it which applied to all homes. The speedy construction time of 2 – 3 weeks means that the environmental impact is minimised.
As a complimentary project to Mekong Homes, many families agree to plant trees and gardens around their new home to add to environmental regeneration and improve the environmental state of the community.
